How many SmartPoints® do I add to my daily Budget while I’m nursing?

Health professionals recommend that babies are exclusively breastfed for the first six months and that breast milk continues to be an important part of a baby’s diet for the first year of life.

Whilst breastfeeding, SmartPoints® are designed to lead to a weight loss of up to 1lb a week. Losing more weight than this may affect the quality and quantity of your breast milk. If you attend a WW Workshop, your WW Coach will check your daily SmartPoints allowance.

Here’s a breakdown of how many SmartPoints (SP) to add to your daily Budget when you’re breastfeeding (when breast milk is the sole source of nutrition for your baby) and partially weaning (when you’re supplementing breastfeeding with solid foods).

If you’re on Green…

Breastfeeding: add 16 SmartPoints to your daily Budget (32SP for twins)*, and don’t drop below 52 SmartPoints a day.
Weaning: Add 6 SmartPoints to to your daily Budget (12SP for twins).

If you’re on Blue…

Breastfeeding: Add 12 SmartPoints to your daily Budget (24SP for twins), and don’t drop below 41 SmartPoints a day.
Weaning: Add 5 SmartPoints to your daily Budget (10SP for twins).

If you’re on Purple…

Breastfeeding: Add 9 SmartPoints to your daily Budget (18SP for twins), and don’t drop below 29 SmartPoints a day.
Weaning: Add 3 SmartPoints to your daily Budget (6SP for twins).

*If you’re breastfeeding mutiple babies, the above values should be added per baby.
