Lost: 3st 8lbs*
In January 2019 I realised I could no longer continue with my unhealthy lifestyle. I had steadily piled on the weight over the previous few years and knew I had to make some serious changes. I used to enjoy running and keeping fit but right then, I couldn’t walk up a flight of stairs without being out of breath. I had got into a bad habit of eating crisps and biscuits in between meals as well as binge eating at night time. I lost any motivation to exercise. It became a vicious circle, the more weight I put on the less I could physically do and the more comfort eating I did.
Myself and my daughter Rebecca decided to join WW together in mid January. We had talked about it many times, but knew we needed to be in the right frame of mind to do it properly. In my WW success book, I wrote down my why’s and never lost sight of them. They were what made me join in the first place and what made me stay. I had a super WW leader, Majella Tobin who really motivated me. I stayed to every talk after each weigh in and found this really helped to keep me on track, as well as giving me new ideas, recipes and positive thoughts to keep me going throughout the week.
Myself and my daughter lost weight steadily every week. We stayed focused even when it was hard, we tracked everything we ate. Doing the programme together was great, we helped each other with our daily and weekly SmartPoints planning, cooking and staying on plan!
It can be difficult as there are so many obstacles in life to distract us away from healthy living. Everything is focused around food and drink; we reward ourselves with something nice to eat or drink when we accomplish something and there are restaurants and coffee shops everywhere, it’s so easy to go off track.
Being prepared was absolutely key for me, and if I had something on, I brought a lunch with me, or if I was eating out, I checked the SmartPoints of the menu options in advance. Eating out doesn’t have to stop. Filling up on low or zero Point foods in the day allowed me to plan treats and meals out. All foods are on the menu with WW, that’s what I found so good about the programme. WW is about changing your eating habits for life, it’s an education on achieving sustainable weight loss by developing healthier habits.
We went on a few holidays during the year, we still had meals out but were able to keep mostly on track during the day. It was so worth it to be able to wear our new holiday clothes in smaller sizes.
What worked for me:
- Keeping a picture of my goal in my head
- Setting realistic targets
- Preparation was the most important thing for me
- Every pound I lost was significant, and was the motivation to keep me going
- Being able to get back into fitness as I lost weight
WW changed my life by giving me back my healthy lifestyle, which is key to a healthy mind. I am now back running and couldn’t be happier. I have more confidence in myself and can now wear exactly what I want. Life is good!
There is no mystery to losing weight with WW, follow the plan, it works!
