Ann Marie reflects on her continuing wellness journey:

“I’ve always been big, since I was a very young age, and as I got older and began to socialise more, it got worse. My doctor was on at me to lose weight, so I knew I needed to do something, but I kept looking for a quick fix. Then one night I sat down with my mother, Mary, and we decided that we would join WW together. I remember my dad being all ‘here we go again’ as we left the house, and I thought there and then, I’m going to prove him wrong this time! When I got to the studio and met with my Wellness Coach, Amy, it all just clicked.

It took three years and so much has changed. I’ve done things in my life that I never even would have contemplated before, like running in the Cork Mini Marathon, and starting to train as a Wellness Coach.

When I started out, even the thought of going for a walk would have been too much, I was always the person who drove everywhere, but now I come in from work, get my runners on and go out on the beach with the dog. Shopping for new clothes is amazing now. I used to have to buy what would fit, rather than what I actually wanted to wear, but not anymore.

I love experimenting with food and recipes, so I’m always trying out new dishes. We used to get take-away a couple of times a week, but now we cook everything from scratch; I swear the take-away delivery man must think we’ve emigrated! I always use the website and WW magazine for recipe ideas, then when WW digital launched, I was obsessed with it. I find I track a lot easier and more honestly using digital as it’s at my fingertips, so tracking my Points and creating and searching recipes is easier.

Taking the journey with my mother was great (click here for mum’s story), we were a great support to each other, although of the two of us I think I was the one that kept us on the straight and narrow! She’s lost six stone and is feeling so much healthier.

I absolutely love going to the Wellness Workshop each week, I’ve formed a real bond with the other people there and have made some really good friendships. I always said that if I could have the opportunity to help others who are in a similar situation to what I was in, then I would, little did I know that it would happen so soon. I started working as a Coach in January 2019 and I’m so excited about it!”
